HOW MUCH ELECTRICITY DOES MY POOL PUMP USE?
A swimming pool pump can use a large amount of electricity in your home. The reason for this is that it runs for many hours everyday. Every pool or pond pump runs for a minimum of 8 hours per day every day of the year. This translates into a lot of electricity usage to keep your pool crystal clear.
A simple calculation quickly reveals how much of your electricity bill is being used on your swimming pool.
((1kw Pool Pump * 8 Hours per Day) * 365) / 12 = R243 Per Month
The above calculation is a very rough calculation beased on an average price of R1 per kW of power. A conservative estimate, in addition this does not take into account the annual increases in electricity prices from Eskom.
