Deep Cycle Batteries
What is a deep cycle battery?
A deep cycle battery is a lead-acid battery designed to be run down to low capacity regularly. It is mainly used in applications where a constant power stream is required. This is the opposite of a regular car battery which is designed to give a higher current quick burst of energy to get the motor started which only discharges the battery slightly when done.
Whilst a deep cycle battery can be used in vehicles, it normally will be over sized to compensate and produce the higher amperage to get the vehicle running.
A deep cycle battery is most cost effective when run to 50% discharge before recharging. This is due to the battery's lifespan in terms of discharges and recharges. The longevity of the batteries has shown to be best when they are not discharged past the 50% mark on a regular basis.
